In Dronten zijn tijdens de Tweede Wereldoorlog tussen de 15 en 20 vliegtuigen met hun bemanning neergestort. De vliegtuigen waren op weg of kwamen terug van een missie tegen het Naziregime. Een aantal heeft het overleefd, maar er zijn ook tientallen vliegers die het met hun leven hebben moeten bekopen. Voor onze vrijheid.
De namen van de meeste vliegers zijn bekend. Zelfs met hun foto.
Nu is er in Dronten een monument waar geen enkele naam van deze vliegers op staat. In het volgende filmpje wordt uitgelegd waarom deze vliegers wel herdacht dienen te worden met hun naam, rang, moment van overlijden. Op dat prachtige maar lege monument. In het filmpje zie je ook alle gezichten van deze jonge mannen, ergens tussen de 20 en 30 jaar.

In 2002 I visited Normandy for the first time. I made some video shots and immediately when I came home I wrote this composition. As a start of many WWII-related music compositions. This composition, called "Introduction" is very dear to me. The start of many years visiting the Beaches and meeting the Normandy veterans from all Allied countries.

On the front of this clip, you can see a picture of the grave of a very young boy. He is called Banks, 16 years old (lied about his age) when he died in WWII. And I got a sense of injustice when I looked at this. I also get this feeling when I see and read messages for the coming period in which doctors have to make decisions about life and death. I am convinced that they will make choices that are in line with human dignity. Priorities such as chances of survival and perhaps age will be taken into account as well.
This boy Banks was 16 when he died. No doubt he did not choose to die so young. Yet he died. Is it his own fault? He chose to participate in what was going on among people at the time. Freedom. Live in freedom.
I stood at his grave, located in the smallest cemetery in Normandy, dedicated to our liberation.
