24 December 1942 (Eighth Air Force): The first P-47s arrive in England however, because of VHF radio and engine difficulties, the P-47s are not sent into combat until Apr 43.
25 December 1942 (Eighth Air Force): HQ 24th Composite Wing is activated in Iceland to control all USAAF units on the island.

Minor Operations: 4 Oboe Mosquitos to Hamborn and Rheinhausen, 4 OTU sorties. No losses.
23 December 1942
18 Bostons bombed St-Malo docks and 6 Venturas bombed naval installations at Den Helder. The Den Helder bombing was particularly accurate and serious damage was caused to a torpedo workshop and other buildings. No aircraft lost.
23/24 December 1942
5 Oboe Mosquitos attacked industrial targets in Essen, Hamborn, Meiderich and Rheinhausen. No results could be observed, because of haze, and later daylight photographs could not distinguish craters caused by these attacks from those of other raids but a map from Essen shows accurate bomb bursts in the middle of the main Krupps factory on this night. No Mosquitos lost.
