On 1944-07-01, Pilot H J Cleary (Flight Lieutenant, RCAF) with servicenumber J/5038 flew a Spitfire IX with serial MH512 for this duty: Recce. His mission was not completed. Circumstances of the aircraft loss: Engaged in a daylight armed reconnaissance on 1 July 1944 over the Argentan area of, France when he reported by r/t that his aircraft had been hit by flak. This aircraft was a part of squadron no. 602. The location for the map is Argentan, France. Circumstances at the end of this mission for Cleary: he died of injuries 8/7/44. He is commemorated at: Bretteville-Sur-Laize Canadian War Cemetery, France.
