On Tuesday 29 December 1942, a member of the 90 Sqdn, Flight Sergeant A W Freeman, took off from an unknown RAF station in the United Kingdom. 30 December 1942 (Eighth Air Force): During Mission Number 27, 77 bombers are dispatched to the submarine base at Lorient, France; 40 aircraft attack with the loss of three B-17s to German fighters. The submarine base shows the cumulative effect of repeated bombardment.

6 Mosquitos attacked various targets in France without loss.

29/30 December 1942

Minor Operations: 3 Oboe Mosquitos attacked Essen and Meiderich in 10/10ths cloud conditions. The Essen bombs fell 500 metres east of the Krupps factory. 14 Lancasters minelaying in the River Gironde. No aircraft lost.
