It seems that we have two family stories from WWII that intertwine. 

My grandfather was an officer in the Luftwaffe (Flak-artellerie). He left us a collection of photographs taken during the war. Most of these were personal images taken of himself, his units, or the surrounding landscapes. About 6 or 7 images were of one event- a military burial where he led the guard of honor. Unfortunately, the only note of this event was on the back of one photograph and simply reads “On the march to the burial of the Tommies”. No other info was known. 

I took it upon myself to figure out what had happened and, more importantly, try to determine the identity of the dead in case they were never reburied in a war cemetery. This led to a lengthy search with inquiries to several towns where my grandfather had served between 1940 and 1941. 

Long story short, several clues, including your information posted on the backtonormandy page, connected the dots. The burial was for the fallen crew of the Hampden AD969 bomber that was shot down near Bevern in June 1941. Based on your information from the website, you are related to Sergeant Price. 

I have attached my report to this email along with the images from my grandfather’s collection in the hopes that some of it might be new to you. I wanted the pilot’s next of kin to have these images so as to complete the story.
